Nota informativa
Latin American and the Caribbean Youth Regional Dialogue towards the United Nations High Level Political Forum in the context of COVID-19
The unprecedented global health crisis we face is affecting all spheres of society and disrupting lives and livelihoods. This crisis disrupts young people's learning trajectories, exposes them to health risks, increases their vulnerability in the labour market, and alters their interpersonal relationships. The impacts can also be deeper or sharper for certain groups such as young people in poverty, young migrants, young people with disabilities, indigenous and Afro-descendant youth and young women, for whom the increase in the double workload and vulnerability to domestic violence are of particular concern.
After an online consultation with youth in the region, two entry points were identified as priority areas: human well-being and capabilities and sustainable and just economies. It is key to take into account the challenge posed by the current context of the COVID-19 crisis and it is pertinent to reflect on its impacts on youth and strategies to mitigate those impacts.
Session Objetives
The overarching objective of this session is to discuss challenges, provide concrete solutions and share best practices and lessons learned to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Latin America related to the two entry points that were selected, considering the impacts of COVID-19 throughout.
As a specific objective the session will seek to develop regional recommendations on the framework of the two entry points to be entered in the formal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development reviewing process.
