Regional workshop on legal frameworks for the production of official statistics

This meeting between the National Statistics Offices (NSOs) of Latin America and the Caribbean is proposed as a space for reflection and discussion about the state of the National Statistical Systems (NSS) of the region and the main challenges of the institutional framework and its legal frameworks, based on the exchange of experiences, processes and activities on statistical laws.

The regional workshop on legal frameworks for the production of official statistics is an initiative of the Working Group on Institutional Strengthening (GTFI) of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC and is organized by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) of Colombia and ECLAC, as Coordinator and Technical Secretariat of the Group, respectively.

The meeting is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Account of the United Nations, Tranch 10.

The workshop is organized into four blocks that considers topics, such as:

  1. Importance of the National Statistical Systems and the establishment of a legal framework.
  2. Organization and governance of the National Statistical Systems.
  3. Conditions for the production and dissemination of statistics in the legal framework
  4. Challenges and perspectives for the strengthening and regional implementation of statistical laws.
