Natural resources
The primary mission of ECLAC in the area of natural resources and infrastructure is to foster competitiveness and greater productivity for economic and social development through the sustainable management of natural resources and the provision of infrastructure services in the countries of the region. To this end, ECLAC works to build countries’ institutional capacities to devise and implement public policies and regulatory frameworks with a view to increasing efficiency in the sustainable management of natural resources and in the provision of public utilities and infrastructure services. It also strives to achieve greater policy harmonization and coordination, to promote exchanges of best practices at the subregional and regional levels in these areas and to make best use of experiences at the global level.

VIII Plenary Meeting of the Regional Forum of Energy Planners (FOREPLEN)
Rio de Janeiro will host the 8th FOREPLEN Meeting on June 5 and 6, 2025, where regional authorities and experts will address energy planning challenges and promote a sustainable and resilient transition.

CEPAL reúne expertos del Foro del Litio y los Servicios Geológicos para intercambiar experiencias sobre el rol de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica en la gestión de proyectos de litio
La CEPAL organizó el taller virtual “Sistemas de información geográfica de los proyectos de litio”, dirigido a los miembros del Foro Permanente de Diálogo Técnico del litio, en el marco de su Plan de Acción Bienal 2024-2026. El propósito del encuentro fue facilitar el intercambio de buenas prácticas, metodologías y herramientas de información geográfica aplicadas a la gestión del litio. Durante el taller se destacó el potencial de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) para integrar y visualizar información geológica, ambiental y territorial clave, lo que permite una planificación y gestión más eficiente de los proyectos de litio y otros minerales estratégicos para la transición energética.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) participated in IRENA Innovation Week 2025, an international gathering held from June 10 to 13 in Bonn, Germany. The event, organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), brought together decision-makers, experts, and global energy sector representatives to address key challenges and opportunities in technological and systemic innovation aimed at accelerating the energy transition toward a more sustainable, resilient, and people-centered energy system.
