International Workshop on Register-Based Censuses

This event is organised by CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the National Institute of Statistics (INE) of Uruguay. The event's primary goal is to increase countries' knowledge about the use of administrative registers and sources to support population and housing censuses. The workshop will address the basic requirements, the relative advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches aimed at the use of administrative registers, and the experience of both extra-regional countries and those in the region that have advanced on this direction.

Climate change and environmental legislation in support of the delivery of the new Programme of Action for SIDS

This side event will take place at the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS-4). Convened by the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC), it will discuss how robust legal frameworks can unlock climate finance for building resilience and enhancing institutional capacities in Caribbean SIDS. The event will also explore ways the OPCC can collaborate to bolster environmental and climate change legislation in the region.

Latin American and Caribbean Countries Call for Approving a Global Pact for Inclusive Social Development at Summit to be Held in November in Qatar

Chile’s Social Development and Family Minister, Javiera Toro, and ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, led a Special Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, which was held virtually.

Chile advances towards the implementation of a statistical geoportal with support from ECLAC

INE technicians participated in a workshop organized by ECLAC to develop a statistical geoportal based on free software and open standards. The initiative seeks to strengthen the dissemination of official data and promote interoperability, following successful examples from other countries in the region.
