President Mauricio Funes Welcomed the ECLAC Executive Secretary

(10 August 2012) On Thursday 9 August, the President of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes, welcomed a mission from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) headed by its Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, who acknowledged the country's current economic stability.

The meeting was held in the President's office and was also attended by the Director of the ECLAC subregional headquarters in Mexico, Hugo Beteta, and the Officer-in-Charge of the Secretariat of the Commission, Luis Fidel Yáñez.

Ms. Bárcena highlighted El Salvador's economic stability despite an international context characterized by the financial crisis still affecting many countries.

President Funes thanked the Executive Secretary for ECLAC's technical support to his country in various areas.

He also thanked her for the trust placed in El Salvador to host the Thirty-fourth session of ECLAC in the Salvadoran capital at the end of the month.

The Government delegation that accompanied the President in the meeting was made up of Foreign Affairs Minister, Hugo Martínez, Technical Secretary, Alexander Segovia, and Private Secretary, Francisco Cáceres.
