(7 January 2010) The Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Angel Gurría, will speak on "Chile's accession to the OECD - Together for a cleaner, stronger and fairer world economy' at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
The lecture will take place on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 5 p.m. in the Raúl Prebisch Conference Room, and will be open to the media.
Gurría will be in Santiago that day for the signing ceremony of the accession agreement for Chilean membership in the OECD, which will take place in the presidential palace with President Michelle Bachelet. Chile is the second Latin American country to enter the OECD after Mexico.
An economist of Mexican origin, Angel Gurría has been Secretary-General of the OECD since June 2006. Previously, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico. He has also participated actively in several international non-profit organizations. Under his leadership, the OECD has agreed to open membership talks with Chile, Estonia, Israel, Russia and Slovenia.
