On April 28, ECLAC organized the 2022 Regional Water Dialogue: Towards an inclusive and sustainable water transition in Latin America and the Caribbean - Preparatory meeting for the 2023 United Nations Water Conference

For the second consecutive year, ECLAC organized the event “Regional Dialogue on Water” as a platform for dialogue to encourage the exchange of regional knowledge and experiences to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 and a sustainable and inclusive water transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the past Thursday, April 28, the event “Regional Dialogue on Water” was organized by ECLAC, which more than 700 participants attended. The event was opened by Mrs Jeannette Sánchez, director of the Natural Resources Division, who summarized the main water challenges and the proposal for transformation in water governance and management for the region.

Representatives from six countries of the region participated in the event. They shared their experiences and initiatives to accelerate compliance with SDG 6 and compliance with the 2030 Agenda: From the Dominican Republic, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development (Mr Miguel Ceara Hatton) together with the Executive Director of the Water Cabinet (Mr Gilberto Reynoso); from Mexico, the General Director of the Basin Organization “Aguas del Valle” (Mr Victor Bourguett Ortiz); from Costa Rica, the General Regulator of the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Mr Roberto Jiménez); from the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the General Director of Limits, Borders and International Transboundary Waters (Mrs Marissa Castro Magnani); from Colombia, the advisor to the Vice Minister of Water and Basic Sanitation (Mr Alejandro Becker Rojas); and from Panama, the Technical Secretary of the National Water Council (Mr Guillermo Torres Díaz).

In addition, ECLAC’s Economic Affairs Officer, Mrs Silvia Saravia Matus, presented key elements for accelerating the achievement of SDG 6, which has positive effects on the economy, the environment and society. In the section “cloud of solutions”, the members of the regional group of experts on water resources in LAC resolved a series of questions distributed on different topics related to water. To complement these concerns, ECLAC is promoting an open consultation that closes on May 31, 2022, to which we invite you to contribute.
