ECLAC Will Release New Figures for Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean

The main topics of this latest annual report of the Commission include returns on foreign investment in the region and the expansion of trans-Latins.

(8 May 2013) On Tuesday 14 May 2013 at 11.00 a.m., the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will launch the annual report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2012 at the Commission's headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The document's main conclusions will be presented by ECLAC Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, at a press conference that will be broadcast live online using the following link.

The 15th edition of this annual ECLAC report includes the amount of foreign direct investment received by each country in 2012 and a regional projection for 2013.

The report also tackles the impact of FDI on employment and the confirmed expansion of transnational Latin American enterprises - known as trans-Latins.

Other topics covered are as follows:

  • Regional and worldwide overview of foreign direct investment.
  • Repatriation of capital and reinvestment of FDI profits by transnational enterprises.
  • Foreign direct investment in the region's agricultural and agroindustrial sector.
