(October 2, 2014) The prospects for the world economy in 2014 have worsened over the course of this year, which could translate into a virtual stagnation of Latin American and Caribbean trade, for a third year in a row. The extent of this weak performance will be detailed in the report Latin America and the Caribbean in the World Economy 2014, which ECLAC will launch next Thursday, October 9 at its headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The annual report -one of this United Nations regional commission's most important ones-will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Chilean local time, in a press conference headed by the organization's Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, and broadcast live via Internet on the institution's Web site.

The document in its 2014 version, prepared by ECLAC's Division of International Trade and Integration, will examine the international situation and its repercussions on global and regional trade. In addition, the report will analyze the participation of Latin America and the Caribbean in global value chains and in the numerous spheres in which integration and cooperation can contribute to strengthening productive integration among the region's economies.

Finally, the last chapter of the report studies the intra-regional and extra-regional relations of the countries belonging to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
