(20 April 2012) Applications to participate in the 13th Summer school on Latin American economies 2012 will be received until 31 May. This summer course is organized by the Division of Production, Productivity and Management of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The names of the applicants selected will be published by 15 June.

The two-month full-time programme will be offered in Santiago, Chile, from 17 July to 30 September 2012. It is aimed at students with post-graduate levels in economy or related disciplines, as well as students interested in further studying a master's or doctor's degree in such fields.

The Summer school on Latin American economies was founded in 2000 as a result of cooperation between ECLAC and Latin American and European universities interested in having their students profit from the expertise and analytical capacity of this regional commission of the United Nations on economic and social issues.

Through this programme, ECLAC offers new generations its research on topics such as productive development, structural changes, innovation, employment and equality. The thirteenth edition of the course pays special attention to the relationship between innovation and economic and social development, as well as progress made on the economics of climate change.

ECLAC makes available its professional staff and facilities at no cost for carrying out this course. However, students must take care of their stay and medical insurance in Chile, as the institution does not grant scholarships.

Lessons are given in Spanish language and students must have knowledge of the English language. In its last edition of 2011, 25 graduate students from 13 countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Republic of Korea, Spain, USA and Venezuela) attended the Summer school.
