The United Nations Independent Expert presents his report on the human rights obligations relating to the environment to the Human Rights Council

The UN Independent Expert on the issue of human rights obligations relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment, John Knox, presented a report containing a compilation of human rights obligations relating to the environment (A/HRC/25/53) to the Human Rights Council.

The UN Independent Expert on the issue of human rights obligations relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment, John Knox, presented a report containing a compilation of human rights obligations relating to the environment (A/HRC/25/53) to the Human Rights Council.

According to the Independent Expert, among the procedural obligations are the three pillars of Principle 10: (a) to assess environmental impacts and make environmental information public; (b) to facilitate public participation in environmental decision-making, including by protecting the rights of expression and association; and (c) to provide access to remedies for harm.

In addition, the Independent Expert informed of his intervention in the Third Meeting of Focal Points designed by the governments of the signatory countries of the Declaration on the application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean which took place in Lima, Peru, on 30 and 31 October 2013.
