Thirty-fifth session of ECLAC adopts resolution on Principle 10 in Latin America and the Caribbean

Delegates from ECLAC's member States and associate members, gathered in Lima, Peru, between 5 and 9 May 2014, approved Resolution 686 (XXXV) on the Application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Delegates from ECLAC's member States and associate members, gathered in Lima, Peru, between 5 and 9 May 2014, approved Resolution 686 (XXXV) on the Application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the resolution, the countries took note of the agreements adopted at the meetings of the process such as the road map, the Plan of Action to 2014 or the Lima Vision for a regional instrument, reiterated their commitment to advance towards achieving the full application of access rights on environmental matters and underscored the importance for the countries of the region of ensuring the sustainable management of their natural resources.

In addition, the countries commended the secretariat of the Commission on the progress made in the process and requested ECLAC to promote regional cooperation in the application of Principle 10 of the Declaration in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Furthermore, the countries of the region were invited to participate actively in the fourth meeting of the focal points appointed by the Governments of the signatory countries of the Declaration to be held in November 2014 at ECLAC's headquarters in Santiago.
