Report of the Regional Implementation Review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean is now available

31 May 2022|Briefing note

The United Nations Network on Migration, which in Latin America and the Caribbean is coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through the Latin American and Caribbean Center for Demography (CELADE) - Population Division, has prepared this Report.

This Review represents the regional contribution to the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), which took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 17-20 May 2022, the only intergovernmental platform of the United Nations to discuss and share progress on the implementation of all aspects of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The main objectives of the Review included the exchange of information on progress, challenges and opportunities, the formulation of recommendations for better implementation, as well as the development of a summary of results.

The Review report involves governments, civil society and other stakeholders from countries in the region. Through the national reports and the interventions at the regional review meeting held between 26-28 April 2021, as well as at the IMRF at the global level, governments affirmed their commitment to the vision, principles and objectives of the Compact. The commitment was equally affirmed by civil society organizations, networks, platforms and regional and subregional processes present in the region.
