Facilitating access to information on gender issues in the ECLAC Library: a new article on Wikipedia

23 January 2020|Briefing note

On 27 January 2020, the Hernán Santa Cruz Library (HSC), in conjunction with the Division of Gender Affairs, ECLAC and Wikimedia Chile, will organize an Editatón, as a side event within the framework of the fourteenth Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is being held in Santiago, Chile from the 27th to 31st January 2020.

Researchers and experts on gender issues will meet in the HSC Library to produce a Wikipedia article on the regional conference, the main intergovernmental forum on women's rights and gender equality in the region. The article will contain the strategies and consensuses adopted during regional conferences held in the past which support the Regional Gender Agenda.

The purpose of this side event is not only to facilitate access to information on gender issues and to highlight Agenda 2030 and SDG 5, but also to reduce the gender gap on Wikipedia, improving the representation of female editors on Wikipedia. Wikipedia notes that one in ten editors are women and that only 33% of Wikipedia articles are in Spanish.

Follow the event on Twitter @bibliotecaCEPAL using the hashtag #CRM14 and #mujeresALC, where we'll post the link to the Wikipedia article.
