21 May 2018|Briefing note

'Santiago Declaration' is the most significant proposal of the event organized last April by the Hernán Santa Cruz Library and IFLA, in the framework of the Second Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Development Sustainable. We invite library associations, and civil society of the region to be part of this consultation process in preparation for the HLPF 2019.

Within the framework of the second Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development 2018 carried out in April at ECLAC headquarters, it took place the side event entitled: "The importance of access to information to achieve sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean".

The purpose of the side event, carried out in the ECLAC Library on Thursday, April 19, 2018,  is to highlight and discuss the importance of access to information, the role of civil society, and in particular of libraries in the implementation of the SDGs and their implementation in local development plans.

One of the proposals of this event was the drafting of the "Santiago Declaration" that aims to show that libraries are strategic partners for the fulfillment of the United Nations SDGs.

In order to ensure that this document is representative of the LAC region, it will be in a consultation process until August 1 2018, in preparation for the High Level Political Forum 2019 (HLPF 2019). More information
