(23 November 2011) In the latest edition of its flagship publication Social Panorama of Latin America 2011, ECLAC analyses progress and setbacks relating to poverty and the distribution of income which the countries of the region have experienced in a situation of growing economic uncertainty.
The poverty and indigence figures for each country relate to 2010 and the regional projection for 2011 will be presented by the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, at a press conference next Tuesday 29 November at 12 noon at the headquarters of the Organization in Santiago, Chile.
The nineteenth edition of this annual flagship publication of ECLAC will also analyse other issues such as:
-The gaps which exist in the world of work and in social protection systems.
-The evolution of social expenditure in the region.
-The situation of fertility in Latin America.
For the first time the study will include a chapter on the Caribbean, which will discuss young people in this subregion.
