The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit extends an invitation to the political leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean to meet at the first ministerial tax summit of the region, which will inaugurate a space for discussion and tax cooperation for our countries. The platform seeks to allow an inclusive and transparent discussion of international taxation issues, in order to identify common positions to strengthen the region's voice in the global tax policy debate. From Colombia, we are convinced that the Latin American and Caribbean region has much to contribute as a bloc to the global tax debate, starting with the definition of a thematic agenda that really allows the construction of an inclusive, sustainable and equitable global tax order. It is also expected that the platform will allow for the coordination of joint action by Latin American and Caribbean countries in tax matters, facilitating the agility in the exchange of information and reducing tax competition in order to achieve greater total tax collection in the region, which will allow us to adequately address the multiple crises faced by our countries.

ECLAC has expressed its commitment to the initiative, lending institutional strength so that the governance structure chosen for the new platform can endure over time.

The new discussion space also aims to create a necessary bridge between the technical and the political, so that the region's contributions reflect the technical quality that has characterized tax law in Latin America and the Caribbean, so it is expected that delegations will include not only the ministerial level but also the technical level, which in many cases is concentrated in tax administrations. Official invitations will be sent through the network of Colombian embassies and, in some cases, directly from the Colombian Ministry of Finance.
In view of the synergies between our region and other blocs of countries, we extend a cordial invitation to African countries and members of the G-24 to participate in the summit as observers.

In order to inform ministerial decisions with the voices of civil society and the private sector, pre-summit meetings will be held on July 26th at the Hyatt Hotel in Cartagena. In these salons, civil society and the private sector will prepare their recommendations to the ministers of the region, which will be presented on July 28 as part of the summit agenda.
