Third Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into the Economic and Social Development of Latin America and the Caribbean

The third Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into Economic and Social Development of Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Mexico City from 8 to 10 August 1983. It was convened by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC to appraise the implementation of the Regional Plan of Action and with a view to the forthcoming World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achiviements of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace.

The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean is a subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) which is convened on a regular basis, at least every three years, to identify the situation of women’s autonomy and rights at the regional and subregional levels, present public policies recommendations for gender equality, undertake periodic assessments of the activities carried out in fulfilment of regional and international plans and agreements on the subject, and serve as a forum for debates on relevant issues.

ECLAC has been given the mandate to convene the member States to sessions of the Regional Conference. Generally, a member country of ECLAC offers to host the conference.

4. Appraisal of progress made in the fulfilment of mandates given at previous conferences on the subject of women:

b) Programme of Action for the second half of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace

c) Others mandates

5. Consideration of regional programmes and regional co-operation mechanisms on the integration of women into development during the second half of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace, and their financing 

6. Regional preparations for the World Conference to review and appraise the achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace

7. Other business

8. Discussion and adoption of the report
