First Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Social Cost of Carbon

The event, organized by ECLAC in the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, will present the results of five studies related to the social cost of carbon implementation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as one of the implementing agencies of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, will host the first meeting of the Regional Working Group on Social Cost of Carbon, to be held on December 20 and 21 at the headquarters of ECLAC, in Santiago, Chile.

The meeting is aimed at decision makers in matters of public investment and climate change linked to the Ministries of Finance, Finance, Planning and Social Development, from Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, and the national focal points of these countries for the EUROCLIMA+ programme.

These countries requested ECLAC’s assistance to work on the impacts of social cost of carbon incorporation. The preliminary results of five studies about this topic will be presented at this meeting, which will allow to designing a methodology for estimating the social price of carbon, identifying the legal powers of national and subnational governments to implement this instrument, and simulating the effects of the social price of carbon in the energy, transport and infrastructure sectors.
