ECLAC Will Launch Report that Addresses the Forging of Political and Social Compacts to Face the Post-COVID-19 Era

The regional organization’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, will present the document during a web seminar in which international officials and representatives of the legislative branch and of civil society in Latin America and the Caribbean will participate.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. local time in Chile (GMT-3) its Special Report COVID-19 No. 8, entitled Political and social compacts for equality and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean in the post-COVID-19 recovery, which poses, among other things, that the rule of law and human rights must be at the center of the recovery.

The document will be presented during a web seminar by Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, and will be commented upon by Beatriz Paredes Rangel, Senator from the Republic of Mexico; Benito Baranda, President of América Solidaria; Laura Flores, Director of the Americas Division of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs; Cecilia López, President of the International Center for Social and Economic Thought (CISOE); and María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. Luis Yáñez, ECLAC’s Secretary of the Commission, will serve as moderator.
