ECLA takes part in the Americas Geospatial Forum and the Sixth Session UN-GGIM: Americas

In the framework of the efforts to strengthen geospatial information management in the region, representatives of this Commission will attend these meetings that will be held in Mexico City, from 9–11 October 2019.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through its Statistics Division, will participate in the Geospatial Forum of the Americas: Promoting the future digitally and in the Sixth Session of UN-GGIM: Americas, to be held between on October 9 and 11, 2019, in Mexico City.

The Geospatial Forum of the Americas, (formerly known as Latin America Geospatial Forum) aims to connect the geospatial technology sectors in the Americas with communities, government, research centers, academia and private organizations, through strategic collaborations, innovation, promotion, partnerships and liaisons.

During the first day, Rolando Ocampo, Director of the Statistics Division of ECLAC, will share with prominent panelists the Plenary Session 3, “Geospatial technology as a mechanism for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals”, where he will discuss the perspectives on the support of technology in the production and dissemination of SDG indicators.

The second day of the event, a meeting will be held between representatives of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC and the Board of Directors of the United Nations Regional Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN- GGIM: Americas), with the purpose of exchanging information on work agendas and identifying collaborative activities between the members of both regional bodies, following the agreements and decisions adopted in previous meetings held in 2017 and 2018.

Finally, on October 11, the Sixth Session of UN-GGIM: Americas will take place, whose main objective is to review the progress of the work groups and thematic networks of this Regional Committee. At this meeting, Rolando Ocampo will deliver a brief report on the activities that ECLAC has carried out to contribute to the strengthening of geospatial and statistical management in the region, as well as the participation of this Commission in instances and working groups at a global level.
