13 October 2021|Announcement

The updated portal will be announced on Friday, October 15 by Alicia Bárcena in a virtual meeting attended by high-level representatives from the global statistics community.

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, will present a new version of the CEPALSTAT platform on Friday, October 15. This is the main portal for accessing statistical information collected on the countries of the region, organized and published by ECLAC.

The presentation of the updated portal will take place during a virtual meeting led by ECLAC’s senior representative in Santiago, Chile, at 9:30 a.m. local time (UTC/GMT -3:00).

Participants in this event include Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division; Mariana Kotzeva, Director-General of Eurostat; Robert Piper, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Development Coordination Office; Juan Daniel Oviedo, Director-General of Colombia’s National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) in his capacity as Chair of the Statistics Conference of the Americas, and Paloma Merodio, Vice President of SNIGMAOTU at Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in her capacity as Global co-Chair of the UN Committee of Experts on  Geospatial Information (UNGGIM). The meeting will be moderated by Rolando Ocampo, Director of ECLAC’s Statistics Division.

The event will be broadcast online at www.cepal.org and https://live.cepal.org/, and on Twitter (https://twitter.com/eclac_un) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/eclac.un).

CEPALSTAT organizes and documents statistics from official national organizations, international agencies, and the different divisions of ECLAC, thus making it a significant source of support for the broad spectrum of users of statistical data, providing access to statistics on the economic, social and environmental areas, as well as on emerging themes prioritized by heads of state at world summits and their respective regional counterparts.

In its new and updated version, CEPALSTAT aims to provide users with a better user experience in their search for available statistics for the region through improved design, friendlier navigation, more content and better functionality.

This portal provides access to statistics and periodic indicators, either through consultation of tables and pre-defined graphics, regional and national profiles based on a set of key indicators, or through the management of databases created for this purpose. The new version includes a geoportal that is inter-operable with databases to provide online georeferencing with the available statistical information, thus allowing the inclusion of external geographic layers.

The portal contains an interactive dashboard to enable the creation of statistical scenarios through online consultation in real time of data from different series and/or countries and time periods.

The press is invited to participate in the presentation.
