Silvia Hernández Sánchez

Before joining ECLAC, Silvia held senior civil service positions in Costa Rica, having served as Vice-Minister of National Planning and Economic Policy and as a Deputy in and President of the Legislative Assembly.

She also has experience in multilateral organizations. She was a consultant with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) and served as technical liaison in the consultation for Latin America and the Caribbean for the High-level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment, established by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

She has also worked as an advisor and university lecturer at various academic institutions, including the Costa Rica Institute of Technology and LEAD University.

An economist by profession, she has a Master’s in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands and a Master’s in International Markets from the University of Salamanca in Spain.
