Norway Will Join ECLAC as a Member State

The ceremony will take place on Sunday 4th October at the commission’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The Kingdom of Norway will join the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) as a member State during a ceremony to be held next Sunday 4th October at the commission’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

In the ceremony Norway’s flag will be raised for the first time in the yard which brings together all the banners of ECLAC’s member States.  The event will be attended by Tone Skogen, Norwegian Undersecretary of Foreign Relations.

Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, will preside over the meeting at 12:30 p.m. She will officially welcome Norway to this regional organism of the United Nations.

Later, both authorities will sign ECLAC’s distinguished visitors book and will meet privately.

The admission of the Kingdom of Norway to ECLAC was officially approved during the 54⁰ plenary session of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, held on 22 July, 2015.
