ECLAC Member and Associate Member States reaffirmed their commitment to implement public policies to transition towards a care society oriented towards the sustainability of life and gender equality. The ECLAC members made this commitment in the Agreement signed on February 9, within the framework of the 64th Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the context of the XV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, it took place the side event ´Regional cooperation to put an end to tax evasion and avoidance and mobilise resources for care policies in Latin America and the Caribbean’, in which representatives from governments and specialists shared proposals against evasion and avoidance and for interministerial cooperation to finance care policies and systems. It was organized by the ECLAC along with ICRICT, with the support of the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund.

All people have been cared for and all need care throughout the phases of life. However, care work is mostly done by women and girls, which hinders their autonomy. Transitioning towards a care society as a horizon for sustainable recovery with gender equality will be the theme of the fifteenth Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled to take place this November in Argentina.

En el contexto del primer encuentro virtual del ciclo de conversatorios “Transitando los Cuidados: conceptualizaciones y prácticas: desde la visión de los organismos internacionales”, profesionales de la División de Asuntos de Género y de la División de Desarrollo Social de CEPAL, destacaron el rol de los sistemas de protección social en cuanto a revertir la injusta organización de los cuidados, además de dar cuenta de las posiciones sobre los cuidados en América Latina y nutrir a la comunidad en torno a la reinterpretación del concepto y prácticas de cuidado, a partir de las experiencias de diferentes actores sociales.

El Encuentro fue organizado por la CEPAL, junto al Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), el Instituto Nacional de las Mujeres de México (INMUJERES) y ONU Mujeres.
