Inter-American Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments discusses participation, access to information and environmental governance

In the framework of the Second Inter-American Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments held on 6 and 7 August 2015 at the National Congress of Chile, ECLAC participated in the debate on sustainable development in which participation, access to information and environmental governance were discussed.

In the framework of the Second Inter-American Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments held on 6 and 7 August 2015 at the National Congress of Chile, ECLAC participated in the debate on sustainable development in which participation, access to information and environmental governance were discussed.

In its presentation, ECLAC welcomed the parliamentary agenda on transparency, access to public information and integrity. It also highlighted the key role that parliaments play in the protection of the environment. Furthermore, it underscored that parliaments are essential in the implementation, guarantee and effectiveness of the access rights to information, participation and justice in environmental matters not only through their legislative functions but also through their control and budgetary ones.
