Fair Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean

13 November 2017|Briefing note

New libguide elaborated by the Library in cooperation with the International Trade and Integration Division and the Information and Communications Technology Section

The libguide on fair trade in Latin America and the Caribbean is a joint initiative of the Division of International Trade and Integration, the Hernán Santa Cruz Library and the Information and Communications Technology Section.

The guide presents a description of fair trade, both globally and in Latin America and the Caribbean. It delves into the definition and principles of the fair trade movement, as well as its link with sustainable development and the work done at ECLAC. The user will find a great amount of bibliographic material, produced by ECLAC as well as by other UN agencies and international NGOs. Likewise, there is a section that presents the most recent magazines and electronic books, and another section with statistics and indicators of fair trade.

The libguide also makes available to the user a section on Latin American and the Caribbean fair trade coordinators, highlighting the work of the Coordinadora Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Pequeños Productores y Trabajadores de Comercio Justo (CLAC) and the Oficina Regional para Latinoamérica de la Organización Mundial del Comercio Justo (WFTO-LA). For those cases, the biblioguía puts foward two campaigns: Latin American Universities for Fair Trade and Latin American Cities and Towns for Fair Trade. Finally, regional initiatives and projects on fair trade are listed, among which stands out the Encuentro Internacional de comercio justo in the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
