ECLAC Will Hold its Fortieth Session in Peru on October 9-11
(4 August, 2011) On Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 August, the regional seminar on the "United Nations in Global Governance" will be held at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
The meeting, which has been organized by ECLAC and the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be opened on Monday at 9.30 a.m. by Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alfredo Moreno, Foreign Affairs Minister of Chile and Joseph Deiss, President of the sixty-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the first day, two panel discussions will be held on "Multilateralism, the United Nations and Global Governance" and "The Role of the United Nations, the Bretton Woods Institutions and the Group of 20 in Global Economic Governance". The second day will contain an analysis of "The Regional Contribution to Global Governance".
The seminar will be attended by Assistant Secretary General for Economic Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Deputy Director for Global Economic Affairs and Development Strategy, French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Cyrille Pierre, and the Mexican Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Lourdes Aranda.
Other delegates include the Vice-Minister and Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the UN, Jorge Valero, Permanent Representative of Argentina to the UN and President of the Group of 77 plus China, Jorge Argüello, Deputy General Director for Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Chilean Foreign Affairs Ministry, Adolfo Carafí, and Special Advisor to the Foreign Policy Unit of the Office of the President of Brazil, Guilherme de Aguiar Patriota, as well as other senior officials from Chile, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
