Factors influencing the emergence of covenants and consensus in social policy are analysed in a new ECLAC study that continues the Commission’s reflections on this topic – as previously developed in various documents.
During the IXth Forum of Ministers of Social Development for Latin America, which was held in Argentina, authorities and experts discussed on youth-based social inclusion strategies and policies. The contributions from the three-day meeting gave rise to the Declaration of Buenos Aires.
At the meeting, organized by ECLAC, along with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and Uruguay’s Centre for Fiscal Studies (CEF), experts discussed the tools available to Latin American countries to tax high incomes and improve equitable distribution.
New document published by the ECLAC Subregional Headquarters in Mexico examines the development of the region’s economies from 1990 to 2011, in order to identify advances, issues pending and setbacks associated with the market reforms implemented in accordance with the Washington Consensus and other policies with differing orientations.
