Virtual sessions on the Escazú Agreement are organized

In April 2020, two informative sessions were held to advance discussion on the matters to be addressed at the first Conference of the Parties, as established in articles 15 and 18 of the Escazú Agreement.

During April 2020, two informative sessions were held to advance discussion on the matters to be addressed at the first Conference of the Parties, as established in articles 15 and 18 of the Escazú Agreement.

In the session organized on 15 April 2020, the elements contained in the rules of procedure of the Conference of the Parties in different international agreements were presented. Representatives of 17 signatory countries, the public and the Secretary to the UNECE Aarhus Convention participated.

The session held on 29 April 2020 dealt with the rules relating to the structure and functions of the Committee to Support Implementation and Compliance. Information was provided on the main characteristics of similar Committees. Delegates of 21 signatory countries, representatives of the public, international experts and the Secretary to the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee took part in the session.

The analysis of the different elements to include in the rules of procedure of the Conference of the Parties and the rules relating to the structure and functions of the Committee to Support Implementation and Compliance will continue in subsequent sessions on 23 and 25 June 2020. On 4 August 2020, a session on the Voluntary Fund established in article 14 of the Escazú Agreement will also take place.
