The Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Han Duck-soo, will give a keynote lecture on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile, where he will be received by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations regional organization, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.
At 4 p.m. local time in Chile (UTC/GMT -3), the Republic of Korea’s highest authority will make a keynote presentation entitled “Vision for the future of cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Latin America and the Caribbean at a time of great transformation.”
Han Duck-soo has served as the Republic of Korea’s Prime Minister since May 2022, although he held this position before, from 2007 to 2008. A Doctor of Economics from Harvard University, he also served as his country’s ambassador to the United States (2009-2012) and the representative of South Korea’s permanent mission to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In addition, he served as Minister of Finance and Economy (2005-2006) and chairman of the Korea International Trade Association.
The Republic of Korea and ECLAC have collaborated closely in recent years on key issues for Latin America and the Caribbean’s development, such as the internationalization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), the reduction of the environmental footprint of exports, and the promotion of sustainable and inclusive urbanization.
Members of the media are invited to attend this keynote lecture, which will take place in Raúl Prebisch Hall at ECLAC’s headquarters (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile). Journalists must have their media credentials or identity documents with them to gain access to the building and must register ahead of time by sending an email to prensa@cepal.org.
