Parliamentary Summit on Climate Change and Just Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean Will Take Place at ECLAC

The event will be held on Thursday, April 20 in the framework of the first in-person meeting of the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC).

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will host the first Parliamentary Summit on Climate Change and Just Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2023 in Santiago, Chile, in the framework of the first in-person meeting of the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC).

This event seeks to promote an opportunity for dialogue among legislators with the aim of strengthening climate ambition in the region. Its main objectives include the signing of a joint statement that expresses the common voice of Latin American and Caribbean parliamentarians on climate change and just transition; the announcement and welcoming of new OPCC parliamentary members; and strengthened interparliamentary cooperation related to climate change and just transition in the region, such as the OPCC legislative data platform.

The Summit will be attended by OPCC parliamentary participants from Argentina, Brazil, the British Virgin Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and Uruguay, in addition to legislators from other countries in the region that are not part of the OPCC.

The Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC) is an initiative carried out jointly by parliamentary leaders from various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. It aims to serve as a shared information tool on the state of environmental legislation and parliamentary treatment in the region.

The Summit’s sessions that are open to the public will be transmitted live starting at 2 p.m. local time in Chile (GMT -4) via https://live.cepal.org/opcc/. (simultaneous interpretation will be available)

Members of the media are invited to participate in this event, which will take place at ECLAC’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarsköld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago). Journalists must have their media credentials or their IDs with them in order to gain entry.
