The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is participating in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), a crucial milestone in the fight against the climate and ecological crisis, which is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December. The ECLAC delegation is headed by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the regional body, who will participate in various sessions of the global forum. ECLAC CARIBBEAN DIRECTOR: International Community Must Lend a Hand to Small Island States

Director of ECLAC Caribbean Diane Quarless says that the international community will need to contribute more to support the development of Small Island Developing States; indeed, if the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not achieved across all countries, then it is the entire global community that assumes responsibility, since the commitment to implement Agenda 2030 was made collectively by all states. Director Quarless was speaking at a media breakfast in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, organized by the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean on Thursday (28 Sep).
