In a joint statement, the Executive Secretaries of the United Nations Regional Commissions have called for enhanced regional cooperation to develop nature-based and technological solutions for capturing CO2 emissions from the atmosphere and ensuring its long-term storage.
At a side event to the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy, the organization’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, highlighted the transformative sectors that help with carbon dioxide removal.
"Over the past quarter-century, the world has become more drought-prone, and droughts are projected to become more widespread, intense and frequent as a result of climate change", says the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.
