ECLAC’s New Annual Economic Report Will Update Growth Projections for the Region’s Countries in 2024 and 2025

5 August 2024|Announcement

The “Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024” will be presented at a press conference by the United Nations regional organization’s Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, next Tuesday, August 13 in Santiago, Chile.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will release next Tuesday, August 13 its Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024: Low-growth trap, climate change and employment trends, one of the institution’s flagship annual economic reports in which it takes stock of the region’s economies in recent months and updates its growth estimates for each country in 2024 and 2025.

In this edition corresponding to 2024, the report analyzes the regional economic performance and presents economic growth projections for this year and next year.

In addition to examining the macroeconomic situation, the second part of the Economic Survey 2024 takes a special look at the impact of the low-growth trap in which the region is caught on employment dynamics and labor informality. It also gauges the possible impact of an intensification of climate shocks on job creation.

The report – prepared each year by ECLAC’s Economic Development Division – will be presented during a hybrid (in-person and virtual) press conference at the organization’s central headquarters in Santiago, Chile at 11 a.m. local time (UTC/GMT -4), led by its Executive Secretary, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

Members of the media are invited to participate in this press conference, which will be held in ECLAC’s building (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile, Celso Furtado conference room). Journalists must have their media credentials or IDs with them to gain entry and must get accredited in advance by sending an email to prensa@cepal.org.

The press conference will also be transmitted live via Zoom at the following link:

Journalists are requested to submit their questions by email ahead of time to conferenciaprensa@cepal.org, and ECLAC’s experts will respond to them during the presentation of the document. Questions will only be taken until 11:30 a.m. local time.

In keeping with tradition, the Economic Survey will include individual notes on the economic performance of each Latin American and Caribbean country in 2023 and the first half of 2024, along with their respective statistical annexes, which will be available on ECLAC’s website (www.cepal.org). The information in these individual country notes will be updated to July 30, 2024.
