ECLAC Will Present its Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2023 Report

José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, the United Nations regional organization’s Executive Secretary, will give a press conference on Thursday, November 23 from Santiago, Chile.

Next Thursday, November 23, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will unveil its flagship annual report Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2023: Labour inclusion as a key axis of inclusive social development, which includes the latest data available on poverty, inequality and social spending in the region. The main topic addressed this year is labor inclusion.

The document – comprising four chapters – will be presented by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, during a hybrid press conference (in-person and virtual) held at 11 a.m. local time in Santiago, Chile (UTC/GMT-3).

Chapter I of the Social Panorama report presents, as in previous editions, the evolution of key indicators, such as per capita GDP, employment, inflation and household income distribution. The chapter also refers to poverty and extreme poverty trends and levels.

Chapter II addresses labor inclusion as a central pillar for inclusive social development in Latin America and the Caribbean, while Chapter III analyzes the challenges for women’s and migrant persons’ labor inclusion in the region.

Finally, Chapter IV examines the social institutional framework of social development policies and its links to labor inclusion and the evolution of social spending in the region.

Members of the media are invited to participate on-site in the press conference.
