ECLAC Seminar on Emergence of Middle Class in Latin America

The development of the middle class in Latin America and the Caribbean over the past decade and the characteristics of the region's economic mobility are some of the topics that will be discussed by renowned experts in a seminar to be held on Friday 11 January 2013 at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.

The Seminar on economic mobility and the emergence of the middle class in Latin America, which has been organized by ECLAC and the World Bank, will be opened at 11.00 a.m. by Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC Executive Secretary, and Hasan Tuluy, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Subsequently Augusto de la Torre, World Bank Chief Economist for Latin American and the Caribbean, will give a presentation on "Economic mobility and the emergence of the middle class in Latin America", with comments from Martín Hopenhayn, Director of the ECLAC Social Development Division. Lastly, there will be a question and answer session.
