The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) opened the application period for the twenty-first edition of its School on Latin American Economies, which annually invites young researchers, graduates and/or post-graduates interested in studying the Latin American development process.

The application process is online and will be open through April 12, 2020. The list of selected participants will be published on the ECLAC website on April 21. Classes will take place July 13 – September 4, 2020 at the UN regional organization’s headquarters in the Chilean capital.

Enrollment and participation in the course are free of charge. Participants are responsible for covering their own travel, housing and daily expenses. The classes, mostly in Spanish, are given by researchers on the ECLAC staff as well as prestigious scholars from Latin American and Caribbean universities and the world.

Close to 600 students from 35 countries and different universities from around the world have participated in the School on Latin American Economies (previously the Summer School) since its creation in 2000. The School is a plural space for thought-provoking discussion, reflection and the generation and exchange of ideas on Latin American development, based on expertise brought from the different divisions of ECLAC and advances on the frontier of academic research. The topics covered include economic history, institutions, macroeconomics, microeconomics, development policy and philosophy.

The Institute for new Economic Thinking will be collaborating once again in this latest edition.
