ECLAC and PAHO Present Joint Report on Health and the Economy in the Context of COVID-19

A new report will be launched virtually on Thursday, July 30, in a simultaneous press conference by ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, and the Director of PAHO, Carissa Etienne.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will present on Thursday, July 30, a joint report entitled Health and the Economy: A Convergence Needed to Address COVID-19 and Retake the Path of Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, in which they will address the need to take health-related measures to flatten the curve of COVID-19 and thereby resume the reactivation of the economy in countries in the Americas region.

The presentation will be held via a simultaneous virtual press conference at 11:30 a.m. local time in Washington, DC and Santiago, Chile (UTC/GMT -4:00), led by Alicia Bárcena, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, and Carissa Etienne, the Director of PAHO.

Journalists interested in participating must register ahead of time. They will receive an email with instructions on how to join.

 

Members of the media are invited to participate in the virtual press conference. Journalists should join the event on Thursday, July 30 starting at 11:30 a.m. local time in Washington, DC and Santiago, Chile (UTC/GMT -4:00) via the Zoom platform (prior registration is required and it is suggested that journalists connect to the event at least five minutes beforehand). The accredited journalists will be able to send their questions in writing ahead of time to the following email addresses: conferenciaprensa@cepal.org and mediateam@paho.org.

ECLAC’s Executive Secretary and the Director of PAHO will respond to these questions once they have finished presenting the document. Questions will only be taken until 12:00 p.m. local time.
