Inter-American Task Force on Women's Leadership

This initiative was launched during the VIII Summit of the Americas (Peru, April 2018), when leaders of the Americas and Caribbean approved the creation of the Inter-American Task Force on Women’s Leadership to promote gender equity and women’s leadership through enhanced cooperation and synergies between international and inter-American organizations. So far, the Task Force members have had dialogues with governments and other stakeholders, looking to define a road-map enhancing the commitment of key actors and harmonize the efforts to achieve even greater efficacy through multi-sectoral alliances engaging women’s leadership in decision-making throughout the Americas and the Caribbean. During the XIV Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Inter-American Task Force is organizing a side event “Investing in women's leadership to change economic scenarios: lessons and cooperation with the private sector", on Thursday, January 30th, 2020, in Santiago, Chile.

The Task Force is composed of key inter-American and international organizations, which have recognized expertise and programming related to women’s leadership. These include: the Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the Organization of American States/ Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), ParlAmericas, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) the Caribbean Institute for Women in Leadership (CIWiL) and the Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women’s Rights (CLADEM).

 

One of the Goals is to enhance coordination and coherence of actions between international, inter-governmental and inter-American institutions and other stakeholders, to position the Americas as a leader in the SDG 5.5 in the framework of the Summit of the Americas process.
