XXVII Meeting of the Special Committee on Transport

The XXVI Meeting of the Special Committee for Transport of the ACS was held on June 14th, 2018 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The Meeting was Chaired by Panama, Chair of the Committee for the period 2018-2019 with the presence of the Dra. June Soomer, General Secretary of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) an organization for consultation, cooperation and concerted action in trade, transport, sustainable tourism and natural disasters in the Greater Caribbean.

The meeting was attended by ambassadors and officials of the embassies of the following countries: Antigua & Barbuda, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Jamaica, Panama,  Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines,Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela and France on behalf of French Guiana, Saint Barthelemy and Saint Martin.

At the meeting Veronica Gonzalez, Expert of the Directorate of Transport of ACS presented the progress of projects implemented during 2017: Maps of Maritime Routes of the Greater Caribbean, the participation of ACS in the ECLAC panel: Logistics Integration from Regional integration Perspective, during the Seminar: Transport Governance, Logistics integration for a more sustainable exploitation of natural resources in Latin America and the Caribbean held in Santiago, November 2017.

The ECLAC presentation was based on recent works that ECLAC and NRID have undertaken to lay the foundations for this paradigm shift in both the national plans and regional physical integration initiatives on integrated and sustainable logistics to create a space for training, discussion and national analysis to design, implement, monitor and evaluate policies that promote national sustainable development, particularly in the areas of logistics infrastructure including ports and airports, as well as other issues related with the infrastructure gap, port development and sub regional challenges to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals with the aim of detecting possible synergies and future work to develop with the Caribbean States Association.
